What To DO:
when you get your kitten home!
1. Pick a room that you want to be 'homebase' for your kitten. This should be a place where the kitten will be safe when you are away from home, like a laundry room or a bathroom.
2. Next, you need to 'Kitten-Proof this room; Make sure there are no electrical cords to chew on and that there is nothing in the room that the kitten can eat,spill,or tip over! If the kitten is going to be in a bathroom you might want to make sure you shut the toilet lid;}
3. The third step is to put the carrier you got from ARoyalty Cattery where you want the kitten to sleep within this room. Put his blanket in the carrier [so he has the smell of his siblings with him to help with loneliness]. On one side of his carrier put his litter box and pour the litter into it. On the other side of the carrier put his food into a small dish and put water into a bowl that won't tip over. So, you have his carrier in the middle now, with food & water on one side and litter on the other.
4. Put your kitten in the litter box, and once she has sniffed about and wandered away, put her in front of her food & water. Just to make sure she knows where these things are. Then, keep your kitten in this room until they know it well, go in there and visit them often! Don't be discouraged if your kitten is shy and hides from you...this is normal as they try to decide if they are safe.
5. After about 24 -48 hours, you can leave the door to your 'homebase' room open and let the kitten explore the new room on her own. She knows where homebase is now, she can run there if needed, and she may run into her carrier when she is afraid or unsure...this is ok! It's her safety zone!
Before you know it, your little ARoyalty kitten will know his way around your house and from there he will become the King of his castle. He will love new cat toys that you can buy at walmart or pet stores...'the best toy is the one with the human on the other end of it!'.....I recommend that you buy a scratching post too. Soon he will entertain you for hours and become your best friend!
REMEMBER:
your cat does not want to travel!!
Traveling can stress your cat, causing
her to become ill.
Cats are not like dogs who want to be
with you even in travel. Cats would
prefer to stay home if you are going to
travel. The only place you should take
your cat in the car would be to the
vet!
Also, when you take your kitten to a place
where there are animals that go in and out
of the home, you are exposing your
kitten to viruses that could make him
extremely ill. Please leave your kitten
at home where they are safe. Leave them
plenty of water and food to last
while you are gone and they will be
there waiting for you when you get
home and they will be happier than
traveling.
